Alexander Navarrete Alvarez

Welcome to my personal portfolio website. I am an undergraduate student studying Mathematics and Computer Science at Dominican University and Computer Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology with an expected graduation in the Spring of 2028.

Experience

Experience 1

NASA L'SAPCE Mission Concept Academy

Software & Mechanical Team | Remote

Developed and implemented software using Python for a rover mission aimed at exploring lunar lava pits/caves for NASA's Artemis Program.

Designed mission-critical algorithms for real-time data acquisition, thermal analysis, and structural integrity assessment of lunar environments.

Collaborated on the mechanical design and development of spacecraft components, ensuring adherence to strict mass, dimension, and thermal constraints for lunar operations.

Experience 2

MSFC NASA Internship

Software Developer | EV-43 Fault Managment Systems | Huntsville, AL

Designed and implemented a simulation using Pygame, including tank water levels, sensors, valves, and pumps, with a clock-based data recording and command sending system.

Leveraged PyTorch to train AI models that interact with the simulation, evaluating water levels and conditions, and making decisions based on dynamic good/bad thresholds stored in external files.

Built a flexible scheduling system to handle varying values and rates of change over time, enhancing the simulations adaptability for different test scenarios.

Projects

Project 1

NASA MUREP MINDS

Software & Mechanical Team | University Research | River Forest, IL

Software developer and Mechanical engineer of "Science and Technology Application for Research in Space" at home institution, part of a private 11-student, 3-faculty research team for NASA's Artemis mission.

Conceptualized fixed LIDAR data collection device to employ at a lunar south pole location for slope computation, elevation modeling, and autonomous vehicle training, emphasizing field-of-view perspective data.

Project 2

Argonne STEM Mini-Semester

Participant | Remote

Hands-on learning sessions to build computational skills desired by research mentors. Worked in teams to create a software capable of predicting precipitation behavior, air quality, and visibility.
